Good shout!

A lot of the Tarantino films have good endings, Resevoir Dogs, Inglorious Basterds, Hateful Eight and my favourite Django Unchained

Northern. Dafoe wasn’t killed at the end of Platoon. It was Berenger’s Sgt Barnes who was killed off. Still. It’s a classic. And always worth a mention in a film thread.

Yeah would have been a bit of a shit film without the Omaha beach scene mind you...

I've been to the Colleville-sur-Mer cemetery (the start of SPR)... without doubt one of the most magnificent and humble places you could ever wish to visit...

Re: Best ending to a film ever?
The thing that struck me about Saving Private Ryan ending was that it was remarkably similar to that of Jaws (albeit it with a different outcome).
The protagonist, alone with inadequate and dwindling ammunition, firing off apparently hopelessly and in vain as his nemesis moved inexorably towards him.

I thought the ending to Saving Private Ryan was considered a major plot hole as it framed the entire movie as his memory of events, most of which he was not a part of.

Re: Best ending to a film ever?
Yeah normally a good gunning down of the main man at the end makes a film...

Von Ryan's Express - Frank Sinatra
Saving Private Ryan - Tom Hanks
Gallapoli - Mel Gibsons mate
Platoon - Willem Defoe
Last of the Mohicans - Chinghacok
Waterloo - The Whole of the French Imperial Old Guard

All good endings

Just ties together really well, Rocket has a happy future, and some nice chilled music etc.

Re: Best ending to a film ever?
Some great shouts here. Another I forgot, not the best but decent, was The Mechanic, the Charles Bronson one not the Jason Statham effort. Se7en was hard hitting, and both The Illusionist and The Prestige were good.

I did suss The Sixth Sense (spoiler alert) halfway through the film though. When Willis and his wife are sitting in the restaurant I remember saying to the Mrs at the time "I think he is dead". Afterwards she asked how on earth I knew that. I said that considering they were both sitting in a restaurant if he was actually there it was highly unlikely that she would have paid the bill ! Got a slap for that!
